Electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn has unveiled a collaborative healthcare automation initiative with NVIDIA and prominent medical institutions across Taiwan, deploying agentic artificial intelligence and mobile service robots into daily clinical operations. Developed under the Healthy Taiwan healthcare modernization framework, the deployment demonstrates a comprehensive transition from fragmented software utilities to an integrated network of physical and digital agents.
Healthcare systems worldwide face acute labor pressures, with nursing staff often spending significant portions of their shifts performing administrative data entry, inventory tracking, and specimen delivery rather than direct bedside care. To alleviate these operational bottlenecks, Foxconn engineered custom mobile robots powered by NVIDIA IGX edge computing modules and the Isaac robotics platform. These robots navigate hospital wards autonomously to deliver temperature-sensitive medications, transport laboratory blood vials, and deliver patient meals.
Simultaneously, the partnership deployed multi-agent clinical software systems connected directly to hospital information systems. When a patient enters the emergency department, coordinated software agents summarize intake vital signs, cross-reference prior electronic health records, organize imaging studies, and draft preliminary triage summaries for attending physicians. Crucially, human doctors remain the final decision-makers, reviewing highlighted evidence before authorizing treatment plans.
Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and NVIDIA healthcare leadership noted that the pilot represents a blueprint for exportable smart hospital infrastructure. By standardizing edge hardware, hospital digital twins, and autonomous transport mechanisms, medical centers can scale automated support without costly custom retrofits.
Initial deployments are active across partner medical centers in Taipei and Taichung, with expanded operational phases planned throughout the coming fiscal year.
